How We Do It
Working with High School Students
Our solution begins in high school as we seek to increase Post-Secondary Enrollment. We have identified three keys to Post-Secondary Enrollment:
Post-Secondary Enrollment = Career Exploration + Test Preparation + Application Guidance
9th–10th Grade:
We help students explore their interests through career surveys and weekly webinars, with raffle prizes to boost engagement. This early exposure builds motivation for post-secondary education.

11th Grade:
In partnership with Khan Academy, we provide personalized SAT prep. Students who raise their scores above 1000 receive financial stipends—improving access to colleges and scholarships, and increasing their chances of long-term success.

12th Grade:
Our Advisors guide students through every step of the college application process—from applications to financial aid and enrollment—while offering stipends to support their commitment.

Working with Post-Secondary Students
Once students enroll in post-secondary education, our support continues and our focus shifts to Post-Secondary Persistence.

Post-Secondary Persistence = Academic Mentorship + Academic Advising

In their first two years of post-secondary education, students are paired with an Academic Mentor—a first-generation graduate Momentum staff member—who offers monthly guidance and support. In addition to this support, we also provide personalized assistance and connect students to key resources for success.

When students persist and graduate from post-secondary education, they often lack Career Support and thus do not secure a job with a living wage.

Career Support = Career Mentorship + Connections to Internships and Jobs

Starting in their first year, students have the opportunity to be matched with a Career Mentor—a professional in their desired field—who provides monthly guidance on networking, resumes, and job readiness. We also connect students to internship opportunities through CareerSpring, with Program Advisors supporting them through the application process.
